ON TIME – Why Showing Up Matters
By: DW Green
This isn’t about the clock.
It’s about respect.
When you arrive on time, you’re saying:
• I respect YOUR time.
• I respect MY commitments.
• I respect this TEAM.
When you arrive late, you’re saying—whether you mean to or not:
• My time matters more than yours.
• My reasons outweigh our agreements.
• I’ll catch up. You wait.
That’s not who we are.
SELF-RESPONSIBILITY
On-timeness starts before you walk through the door.
It starts with how you plan.
How you anticipate.
How you own your morning, your commute, your life.
If you’re always five minutes late, you’re not unlucky.
You’re five minutes behind in your thinking.
The fix isn’t rushing.
The fix is deciding—in advance—that you’ll be there.
SELF-RESPECT
When you show up on time, you’re honoring yourself.
You’re saying: I keep my word.
I do what I said I’d do.
I’m someone who can be counted on.
That’s not about impressing others.
That’s about BEING someone you’re proud of.
Self-respect isn’t earned in grand moments.
It’s built in small ones.
Like arriving when you said you would.
TEAM
Look around the room when the meeting starts.
The people who are there? They made it.
They rearranged. They anticipated. They showed up.
When you walk in late, you’re not just interrupting the agenda.
You’re saying to everyone who’s already there:
I didn’t do what you did.
A team isn’t just people working together.
A team is people who SHOW UP together.
Same time.
Same commitment.
Same respect.
BELONGING
Here’s the deeper truth:
On-timeness is a visual representation of belonging.
When you’re here, on time, ready—
you’re IN.
You’re WITH us.
You’re part of this.
When you’re consistently late—
you’re signaling separation.
Whether you mean to or not.
Belonging isn’t just a feeling.
It’s a practice.
It’s showing up.
Again and again.
On time.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Tardiness isn’t a small thing.
It’s a statement about:
• Responsibility
• Respect
• Self-responsibility
• Self-respect
• Team
• Belonging
Be someone who shows up.
On time.
Every time.
That’s a qualification.
That’s a commitment.
That’s who we are.
