Grudgeholder

“On the Boulder That Only Crushes the Man Carrying It.”

Recently Dennis, one of our vendors (and a good friend), stopped by to drop off some wine. He

mentioned he’d just run into another vendor in the store — a guy he used to do business with, before their companies parted ways over a difference in direction. The breakup didn’t sit well with the other guy. He won’t speak to Dennis, won’t nod, won’t do anything except deliver a world-class death stare whenever their paths cross. The man could power a small city on that grudge alone.

That got us talking about grudges in general, how some people just won’t let one go. There’s the

Grudgee, in this case Dennis, walking around perfectly happy, ready to let bygones be bygones. And

then there’s the Grudger, hauling around a boulder of bitterness that’s somehow only crushing the guy

carrying it. We both know people like this. In fact Dennis told me that the last time he and his wife had a big fight was a couple years ago when he told her that she was a grudge holder and she held a grudge against him for saying that. I thought that was hilarious. Life’s too short to let negative emotions have

any space next to the positive ones. Let it go. Move on, cowboy.
